Airport tour

I went to Chubu International Airport (so-called "Centralair") with students as one of our internship programmes. There are many other programmes going to other workplace such as Nagoya port, but this airport tour is the most popular. More than 100 students applied and only around 40 students were selected.

I quite often use Centralair for both international and domestic flights, but I haven't seen behind the iron curtain. The tour included a number of sights-seeing. One of the fascinating things was to see the runaway area. Some people are so maniac about metal vehicles such as cars, trains and airplanes. I'm certainly not such kind of person, but seeing the plane taking off and landing very closely is so exciting! I could understand why people are crazy about them.

We could also see the office of JAL, which is located under the departure floor. We know a number of people working in the airport, but we only see limited jobs such as ground staff at check-in counters and flight attendants on the plane. So, it was a very good consciousness-raising opportunity to see that other jobs equally contribute to flight. I felt a bit strange when I climbed up stairs from the office and suddenly saw the familiar floor.

It was a bit long one-day tour. When we came back to Kanayama station, it was already 7.30, but certainly, I could gain a new look on the airport and airline jobs. The next flight should be much more enjoyable.
